Fountain Guide: Best Uses and Timing
Fountains are one of the most useful products in a beginner show. They add color and texture at ground level, create breathing room between aerial sections, and can keep the event fun when noise or space is limited.
Fountains are still fireworks
Use fountains outdoors on a flat stable surface, keep spectators away, and never hold them. Even low aerial height does not make them safe to handle casually.
Where fountains shine
Opening
Start with a bright fountain when you want a controlled beginning before aerial items.
Pacing break
Use a fountain after several loud cakes so the show has contrast instead of constant noise.
Family section
Fountains work well earlier in the evening when younger viewers are still close to the action.
How to choose a fountain
- Duration: Longer fountains are better for pacing breaks; shorter fountains work as accents.
- Height: Match height to your space and keep overhead branches or wires out of the area.
- Noise: Crackle and whistle fountains feel bigger but may not fit every audience.
- Color changes: Multi-phase fountains feel more complete as standalone items.
Sample fountain timing
| Moment | Fountain style | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-show | Small colorful fountain | Signals that the event is starting |
| After first aerial section | Longer fountain with crackle | Lets smoke clear and resets pacing |
| Before finale | Quiet gold or silver fountain | Creates contrast before the loud ending |
